A major airline could shut its operating base at Manchester Airport.

Irish airline Aer Lingus operates long haul routes from Manchester to New York JFK, Barbados and Orlando, as well as flights to Dublin and Belfast.

But the firm has said its Manchester long-haul operating margin performance 'continues to significantly lag behind that of Aer Lingus's Irish longhaul operating margin'.

It has confirmed it has met with staff in talks, with the move potentially impacting about 200 jobs.

A statement from Aer Lingus confirmed it has entered into a consultation process with unions.

Aer Lingus launched its long-haul flights from Manchester in 2021, Manchester Evening News reports.
