Days after Mumbai Congress announced that it will contest the upcoming Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) polls independently, its Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) ally Nationalist Congress Party (SP) on Saturday said the election should be fought unitedly against the BJP.

Mumbai Congress chief and Lok Sabha MP Varsha Gaikwad, along with a delegation of party leaders, met NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar two days ago. The Mumbai Congress, which wants to contest the BMC elections without Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT) and Raj Thackeray’s Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), had proposed to fight the polls with its old ally NCP(SP). Pawar had told the delegation that he will consult his Mumbai leadership and convey a decision.
