BIRMINGHAM, Ala. —
Melva Langford, the wife of the late former Birmingham Mayor Larry Langford , has died, the Birmingham City Council said in a statement on Friday.
“Melva’s legacy is one of generosity, kindness and public service,” the council said, adding that “Birmingham is better because of her.”
Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin issued a statement saying, "Anyone who ever met Melva Langford knew her as a gracious, caring woman who loved her community. She was a dedicated public servant in every way and a wonderful First Lady for our city. A committed partner with her husband Mayor Langford, Ms. Langford will be missed by everyone who had the pleasure to know her. May God bless her family and friends in this time of her passing."
No other details have been released.
