BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla on Saturday praised Congress MP Shashi Tharoor’s reaction to the meeting between US President Donald Trump and New York City mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani , while sharply criticising the Congress leadership.

What sparked Poonawalla’s reaction

Tharoor had shared a picture of the Trump–Mamdani meeting on X with the caption: “This is how democracy should work.” He argued that political rivals should fight strongly during elections but cooperate once the people had spoken.

Tharoor’s comment came after an unusually cordial meeting between Trump and Mamdani, two politicians who had earlier exchanged strong words.
