India’s apex drug regulator has directed hospitals across the country not to discriminate against medical devices lacking certification from the US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA), following concerns that many facilities have been favouring imported products—particularly cardiac and orthopaedic implants—over Indian-made alternatives.
These implants, used in life-threatening cardiac conditions and in cases of fractures, arthritis or congenital skeletal issues, are already under national price control, ensuring uniform ceiling prices across India.
