Right at the eleventh hour, a strike consisting of licensed practical nurses and healthcare workers ended before it took off Saturday, after a tentative agreement with Alberta Health Services was reached.

The Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) vice president, Curtis Jackson, tells CityNews picketing workers have been asked back to work, and they will vote on the agreement.

More details are expected at a press conference at 11 a.m.

Thousands of unionized workers were set to strike across the province at 8:30 a.m. this Saturday.

The union announced strike notice on Wednesday and made announcements right up until 8 a.m. that there would be a strike.
