If the latest monthly weather outlooks by the National Weather Service’s Climate Prediction Center prove true, New York may experience an unusually wet start to winter.
According to an outlook issued on Thursday, the entire state of New York has elevated chances of experiencing above-average amounts of precipitation this December. However, the odds of particularly high rainfall vary depending on location.
New York City, Long Island, the Hudson Valley and much of central and eastern upstate New York have a 33-40% probability of recording higher-than-normal amounts of precipitation. However, those further to the west and north, including those along the Great Lakes, have a 40-50% chance of receiving above-average precipitation amounts.
