Florida basketball’s Olivier Rioux again made history.
The 7-foot-9 redshirt freshman became the tallest person to ever score in a basketball game during the Gators’ 80-45 win over Merrimack on Saturday, Nov. 21.
Rioux, who previously played against North Florida back on Nov. 6, checked into the game with under 2 minutes and 30 seconds left in the game. After a minute on the floor, the Montreal native picked up a foul to go to the free-throw line.
“I thought he did a good job getting to the foul line, really proud that he made one,” Florida coach Todd Golden said. “There wasn't a lot there, probably five possessions, but he did the best he could do in those minutes.”
Rioux missed his first attempt, but made good on his second, leading the sold-out crowd at the Stephen C. O’Connell
