As Delhi’s air pollution once again spirals into hazardous territory, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has tightened the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP), bringing stricter measures into effect earlier than before. The move follows the Supreme Court’s approval of major revisions to the pollution-control framework.
Delhi woke up to an overall AQI of 360 (‘very poor’) at 9 am on Saturday, as reported by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). With winter setting in and calm wind conditions trapping pollutants closer to the surface, authorities are bracing for further deterioration.
Under the updated GRAP, several curbs previously reserved for Stage 4 (AQI > 450) will now kick in during Stage 3 (AQI 401–450). Similarly, Stage 3 restrictions shift to Stage 2 (AQI 301–40
