With gratefulness, I remember Steve Kohls and the passion for photography he lit within me when I was a student at CLC just over 20 years ago. He taught me what I know about taking good photos that I have carried with me through my life. I’ll never forget the magic of the darkroom, watching the developing prints come to life. I took a few semesters of photography classes with Steve — I remember driving through a snowstorm to meet up at a Christmas decorated mansion and other unique photo field trips that couldn’t be missed. His tips for getting a great shot stick with me, like when you’re taking photos during golden hour with the light illuminating through the leaves, turn around to look at what the sun is shining on. I still do that on hikes even when I’m not taking photos.
