SARASOTA, Fla. ( WWSB ) - The Safe Children Coalition (SCC) distributed 450 complete Thanksgiving meals on Nov. 22, during its annual drive-thru event, continuing a nearly quarter-century tradition of supporting families in need.

This year marks the 24th time the organization has hosted the holiday giveaway, which began as a community service project for teens in SCC’s Achievers program. The effort has since grown into a community-wide initiative made possible through donations and local partnerships.

One Stop Cares annual Thanksgiving event

Each family received a turkey large enough to feed eight people, along with vegetables, traditional side dishes and a pie.

The meals were provided by Publix, which supplied the food at a discounted cost in support of the event.
