BRADENTON, Fla. ( WWSB ) - A Bradenton man died in protective custody shortly after calling emergency responders to report that “the cartel” was chasing him.

According to police, at about 3:30 a.m. on Nov. 22, 51-year-old Todd Donahue called 911 on First Street, saying that “the cartel” was chasing him.

A second 911 call soon followed from a witness at a Wawa at 701 First Street East, who reported that Donahue had come to the business and was acting erratically.

When officers arrived at the Wawa, they found Donahue and determined his behavior warranted taking him into protective custody under Florida’s Baker Act, police said.
