The Supreme Court has released an official note detailing the recommendations cleared during Chief Justice of India B R Gavai’s nearly six-month tenure. The document shows that the collegium led by Justice Gavai sent 129 names to the Centre for appointments to various high courts, of which 93 were approved.

According to the data, the names cleared by the government included 10 judges from the Scheduled Caste community, 11 from Other Backward Classes and Backward Classes, and 13 from minority communities. The list also featured 15 women judges, reflecting the collegium’s push for wider representation.

The government also approved the elevation of five judges to the Supreme Court during this period — Justices N V Anjaria, Vijay Bishnoi, A S Chandurkar, Alok Aradhe and Vipul Manubhai Pancho
