BATTLE CREEK -- Farmington Hills Mercy kept trailing in sets in Saturday’s Division 1 state championship game against Bloomfield Hills at Kellogg Arena. Early in the first set, late in the second, and early in the fourth, the Marlins were facing deficits.
But each time, Mercy bounced back, taking those sets and the state title with a 25-18, 25-20, 23-25, 25-20 win over the Black Hawks.
Playing from behind was nothing new for the Marlins, who were on the verge of seeing their season come to a close in the semifinal before pulling off a reverse sweep to beat Byron Center. On Saturday, they battled to wins in those first two sets, coming from behind both times.
