Asian Seoul’s Copa Kitchen is launching a “community board” program that will allow customers to prepay for meals for people in need, the restaurant announced Friday.

The board, which the restaurant hopes to have in place by Monday, will display receipts for prepaid meals. Anyone who is hungry will be able to take a receipt from the board, bring it to the counter and receive a cooked meal at no charge, according to a post on the restaurant’s Facebook page.

Staff acknowledged that the system could be misused but said the risk is outweighed by the need to address food insecurity.

“We are quite aware that some may take advantage,” the restaurant said in a statement. “But we are also aware that hunger does not take a break just because it’s the weekend or the government shuts down.”
