WESTLAND – Jefferson’s amazing football season came to a end in the state semifinals.

The Bears, who won just one game last year and three over the past two seasons combined, closed with an 11-2 record after falling 51-21 to Pontiac Notre Dame in the Division 5 state semifinals at Westland John Glenn.

Jefferson, which scored 524 points (47.6 per game) during the first 12 contests, could not generate much offense against the defending state champs.

Notre Dame took an early lead on a touchdown just 3:30 into the game and led 14-0 after one quarter.

Jefferson’s hole grew to 24-0 at the half.

The Bears showed some life in the third quarter. Trey Oldenburg caught a touchdown pass from Luke Beaudrie, then Drake Jones ran for a pair of TDs to slice the Notre Dame lead to 31-21.
