A former first-round NFL quarterback has chosen to walk away from pro football, at least for now, with much of the season still left to play.

Ryan Tannehill, the No. 8 pick for the Miami Dolphins in 2012, has apparently retired.

The former Texas A&M star remained with Miami until 2019, when he was traded to the Tennessee Titans. This move turned out to be a great career decision, as he was selected to the Pro Bowl for the first time in his career and led the league in passer rating that year.

Having thrown for a total of 20,434 yards and 123 touchdowns in Miami, Tannehill registered 2,742 passing yards and 22 TDs in his first season with Tennessee, completing 70.3 percent of his throws.

He signed a four-year $118 million extension with the franchise in 2020 after leading them to the AF
