OAKLAND COUNTY, MI – Jackson Lumen Christi earned a place in the MHSAA Division 6 state final in the most dramatic fashion with a triple overtime win over Almont Saturday.
The Titans were neck-and-neck with the Raiders for every second of regulation time - a blocked PAT and failed two-point conversion meant the score was 6-6 at halftime.
The teams continued a defensive showdown in the second half, with Almont taking the lead in the third quarter but Lumen Christi quickly responding to establish a 13-13 stalemate that carried through the end of regulation.
Each of the three overtime stands on the goal line featured its own drama - huge stops, an Almont punch-out to force a fumble, a failed Lumen Christi two-point conversion and a missed Almont PAT set up the final showdown.
