PORTLAND, Ore. — Three people, including two who jumped from the balcony in order to escape, were hospitalized after an early morning fire in Southwest Portland.

At 7:01 a.m., Portland Fire & Rescue crews responded to a fire on the main floor of a two-story townhouse at 5527 Southwest Multnomah Boulevard, where two people were stuck on the rear balcony.

The first crew on the scene, from Eugene, began trying to rescue the two trapped residents, as well as searching for more victims amid heavy smoke and flames. The second arriving engine crew connected to a fire hydrant and laid in hose lines to attack the fire, which was in the middle unit of three townhomes.
