KUNIA, Hawaii (Island News) -- A man was arrested and charged, accused of starting a brush fire in Kunia on Thursday.
The brush fire broke out in the area of Kunia Road and Fort Weaver Road on Thursday, Nov. 20. The fire approximately burned 14 acres of land.
Police said a witness saw a man leaving the brush area moments before the fire started.
Officers quickly arrived at the scene and they located and arrested 30-year-old Lendon Galoia-Lauti. He was taken into custody for second-degree arson.
As a result of the fire, an estimated $5,000 in damages was caused to a nearby agricultural property.
Galoia-Lauti was charged with arson on Friday, Nov. 21, and his bail was set at $2,000.
