Tatum Lanier, the 1,000th child in North Carolina to receive a cochlear implant, was given a new one from the UNC Health Lenoir’s Cochlear Implant Mobile Unit.
In 2015, Lanier, who lives in Sneads Ferry, was born deaf and became the 1,000th child in the state to receive a cochlear implant, an electronic device that helps people with severe to profound hearing loss regain some hearing.
