The reigning Class 3A football state champions are heading back to the dance.
On Saturday afternoon at Summit High School, Burns was able to hold on for a 36-31 victory against Banks in the Class 3A football state semifinals.
Banks ran out to an early lead in the first half. A couple of minutes into the first quarter, Lane Gilbert broke off for a 33-yard rushing score. Then 90 seconds into the second quarter, Banks got another one as Nate Lyda found Wyatt Jackson for a 12-yard touchdown catch for a 14-0 lead.
But Burns woke up in the final minutes of the first half. Jack Wright found Coltin Miller for touchdown passes of 83 and 11 yards in the second quarter to take a 16-14 lead.
