A fire broke out aboard a Los Angeles container ship on Friday, briefly prompting a shelter-in-place order for surrounding communities over concerns about hazardous materials within the ship’s cargo.
All 23 crew members of the ship were accounted for and there were no injuries from the electrical fire, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. Officials said they had identified hazardous materials aboard the vessel, the One Henry Hudson.
On Saturday morning, Mayor Karen Bass announced the cancellation of a shelter-in-place order that had been in place for the areas around the port for several hours.
“The shelter in place order has been lifted for the Los Angeles port communities, including Wilmington and San Pedro,” Bass said on X.
