Palisade football found themselves trailing Roosevelt 14-13 late in the fourth quarter of Saturday’s 3A state quarterfinal, and based on the Bulldogs’ less-than-inspiring offensive performance to that point, they needed a miracle to try and keep their season alive.

Enter Dylon Larson.

On the first play from scrimmage on the Bulldogs’ penultimate drive, Palisade quarterback Branson Springer took a direct snap, turned right, and pitched the ball to Larson in the backfield. Larson, whom everybody in the building expected to tuck the ball and run, instead turned his eyes up field, looking for a surprise pass.
