Nagpur, Nov 23: A 13-year-old girl died by suicide on Sunday after her parents refused to buy her a mobile phone, officials said. The incident occurred in a slum near the Hanuman Temple in Chankapur.
The Class 8 student, who enjoyed playing games on mobile phones, reportedly hanged herself when she was home alone. Her mother and sister discovered her lifeless body upon returning home. A case of accidental death has been registered, and the body has been sent to Mayo Hospital for post-mortem.
Authorities noted that Maharashtra has seen similar incidents recently, with several teenagers taking their own lives after being denied mobile phones by their parents.
