Edison girls start strong
RICHMOND — The Edison girls basketball team started its season in style on Friday night.
The Wildcats rolled to a 55-11 victory over Jefferson County rival Buckeye Local in a mutual season opener.
After opening a 15-5 lead after one quarter, the Wildcats out-paced the Panthers 23-2 in the second quarter to take complete control and did not look back as Edison out-scored the visitors 40-6 in the last three quarters.
Some 11 different players found the scoresheet for coach Mark Smyth’s team, led by 17 points from Abby Carpenter and 14 from Sophia Henderson.
Buckeye Local got four points from Alexis Becker.
Edison takes on another rival Wednesday when it travels to Harrison Central, while Buckeye Local is set to host Toronto on Wednesday.
