CHARLESTON – Around 1857, a brick building on Line Street was once a hub for the city’s booming railway system.

The historic structure, with its arched doorways and 10-foot windows, served as the repair depot for train cars until 1967 when the line was abandoned due to more efficient routes. After a fire in 1981, the Charleston depot at 44 Line St. was left vacant for decades until development company Lifestyle Communities, or LC, arrived in 2018 with an ambitious project to transform the corridor just south of Interstate 26.
