COLUMBIA — There were a lot of hearts in mouths. There were a lot of questions about how South Carolina would look after one of the worst losses in its history, the 31-30 loss to Texas A&M last week that will forever be remembered as “Gaggie” for how the Gamecocks choked away a 30-3 halftime lead.
No one’s going off the deep end because USC blistered Coastal Carolina 51-7 on Nov. 22. It was a tiny jolt of adrenaline, a minute speck of hope, though, that the Gamecocks can win the only thing they got left.
Beat Clemson. It will not get USC to a bowl game. It will not erase the disappointment of this year.
What it will do is give the Gamecocks something they have barely had, and it’s something worth fighting for: A chance to hold the upper hand for another blissful year. USC hasn’t won
