New "exciting" research suggests a specific supplement may help reduce the risk of Alzheimer's disease. Scientists have discovered that this naturally occurring amino acid could prevent the build-up of dangerous plaque within the brain.
Alzheimer's disease is the most common form of dementia, leading to problems with memory, language, and behaviour. It is thought to be caused by an abnormal accumulation of proteins in and around brain cells.
One such protein is amyloid, which can create plaques around brain cells. Recent research has suggested that taking an oral supplement might lower amyloid levels in the brain.
