OAKFIELD – A 24-year-old Lomira man has died from what authorities believe was an unintended discharge of his firearm on the first day of gun deer hunting season Nov. 22.

Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office said a 911 call reported the incident at 8:28 p.m. near Stumpf and Wild Goose roads in the town of Oakfield. The caller reported the man had been hunting in that area earlier in the day and was found deceased near a tree stand from an apparent gunshot wound.

Sheriff’s deputies, Lifestar Ambulance and Oakfield Fire Department responded to the scene. Authorities said preliminary investigation revealed the man had a gunshot wound from a suspected unintended firearm discharge.
