CAZENOVIA – In one sense, Doug Duren's plans for the 2025 Wisconsin gun deer opener were no different than they'd been for the last 50 years.
He'd be hunting on the Duren Family Farm, a 430-acre chunk of the Driftless Area south of Cazenovia that's been his traditional deer spot since he was able to hold a rifle.
But man, how things have changed, too.
The deer season used to be almost entirely focused on the nine-day gun hunt. This year people have been hunting deer on the farm since mid-September when the bow seasons opened and will likely keep at it through January.
And it used to be six or eight family members or neighbors in the hunt, Duren said. Over the course of the 2025 season he expects 40 people to hunt on the property.
