"It’s important to watch out for deals that seem too good to be true and know who you are giving to," Bird said.
She recommended verifying websites to ensure they are legitimate, as scammers often create fake sites that mimic well-known retailers. Iowans should be cautious of emails or texts offering "exclusive deals" and avoid clicking on suspicious links. Bird also warned against gift card scams, advising buyers to check for intact security codes and purchase only from trusted retailers.
