The countdown to the 2026 FIFA World Cup has well and truly begun - and there’s plenty to look forward to both on and off the pitch.

Spread across 16 cities in the United States, Canada and Mexico, and serving as the guinea pig to the tournament’s expanded format of 48 teams, fans are itching for action to get underway in exactly 200 days time .

Seven of the eight World Cups set in the Americas have been won by a South American team, while 10 of the 11 played in Europe have been won by Europeans.

However, the 23rd edition of the tournament may well buck that trend if those coming to the west are at their best.

The tournament will take place from June 11 to July 19, beginning in Mexico City at the Estadio Ezteca.
