A head-on crash involving a wrong-way driver in Mansfield caused two people to suffer serious injuries on Sunday morning.

The crash happened at about 2:22 a.m. on Interstate 495, according to the Sun Chronicle .

The driver of one of the cars was taken to Boston Medical Center. Police responded to a report of a driver going the wrong way on I-495 when they found the crash.

First responders from Mansfield and Foxboro responded to the scene and took the drivers for treatment. The scene was cleared after firefighters helped with hazard control and lighting for investigators. The highway opened shortly after.

The crash remains under investigation.

Massachusetts State Police did not immediately return a request for comment.
