The gates of Fort McHenry are back open after the bomb squad gave the all clear this weekend.

The park was cleared of all visitors and staff quickly on Friday after renovation crews unearthed a cannonball buried beneath the historic site.

The Baltimore Police Hazardous Device Team and Air Force Explosive Ordnance Disposal moved in, and according to police, gas was shut off in the area. Police warned residents about a potential loud noise as the cannonball was removed, which took crews several hours.

Police say the cannonball was taken to federal agencies for what they are calling “continued observation.” No injuries have been reported.
