1925: In accordance with a nationwide movement to make Christmas a day when families can celebrate free from outside duties, the postmaster general, Harry S. New, has ordered post offices in the United States to close all day Christmas. The only work done will be dispatch of outgoing mail. Formerly the post office closed at 11 or 12 o’clock, and there was one delivery. There will be no delivery of mail nor will the windows open at all this Christmas.
