The Grand Rapids Griffins were less than five minutes from being shut out before rallying for a 2-1 victory Saturday over the Charlotte Checkers on Ian Mitchell’s overtime goal.
The Griffins improved to 12-1-0-1, which remains their best start in franchise history. Their 7-1 start at Van Andel Arena continues to be their best since 2009-10 (8-0). Their .893 points percentage remains the best in the AHL.
Gabriel Seger scored his first goal of the season to tie it with 4:56 remaining in the third period.
Carter Gylander made 28 saves for the win and improved to 3-0-1 (2.02 goals-against average, .929 save percentage).
The Griffins play a pair of games in Texas this week on Tuesday and Wednesday (8 p.m. both nights).
