Growing up in North Carolina, Cam Newton was Drake Maye’s favorite quarterback.
Maye paid homage to Newton with his signature “Superman” celebration after scoring a touchdown against the Panthers earlier this year, but those days may be over following some criticism from the ESPN panelist.
In an amusing pregame video, Maye had an extended handshake with wide receiver Stefon Diggs. When Diggs got to a “Superman” celebration, Maye smirked and shook his head.
Newton was dismissive on TV this week when asked whether the AFC would run through New England.
“It has fool’s gold written all over them, cubic zirconia middle of the mall” Newton said.
Maye brushed the comment off, saying he wasn’t sure what show the former quarterback was on, and then Newton then doubled down later in the week.
