A 29-year-old Fairbanks man was sentenced to 65 years in prison on Friday for the 2023 murder of 35-year-old Lawrence McMullen Jr.
According to court documents, Christopher Oktollik shot McMullen on April 9, 2023, at the Alaska Motel on South Cushman Street.
Fairbanks police and paramedics responded to the scene to find that McMullen had no pulse and wasn’t breathing. He was pronounced dead at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital.
McMullen was found to have four gunshots to his back at downward angles and a wound to his leg. A toxicology report showed he had fentanyl, methamphetamine and alcohol in his system at the time of his death.
A jury convicted Oktollik for first-degree murder in July following a five-day trial.
