EAST LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - No. 2 seed Michigan State women’s soccer took down No. 3 seed Colorado, 2-1, on Sunday afternoon at DeMartin Stadium. The Spartans advance to their first NCAA Quarterfinals, or Elite Eight, in program history after falling in the Sweet 16 in the previous two seasons.

Senior midfielder Bella Najera started the Spartans’ scoring just 43 seconds into the game, taking a cross into the box from Sofia Beerworth and driving the ball into the upper right corner of the net to give Michigan State a 1-0 lead.

Colorado answered with a goal from Faith Leyba after a corner kick and scramble in front of the net, tying the game at 1-1 in the 33rd minute.
