MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Mayor Paul Young is touting a decrease in crime across the city.

According to data from the City of Memphis, there have been 35,851 reports of major crimes so far this year. The number indicates a decrease from 53,806 at the same time last year and 65,794 during the same period in 2023.

The City’s data indicates a 26.22 percent drop in major crimes city-wide.

Young addressed the new crime statistics on Friday, saying that while it is “still far too high for any of us to accept,” the decrease shows promising signs about the city.

“Each of those numbers represents safety restored and peace beginning to return,” Young said.
