Spokane Police said the suspect, a 40-year-old male, held a woman against her will in his apartment in the 1500 block of West Sharp Ave.

The hostage, who neighbors say is homeless and had a black eye, sustained injuries but was able to escape safely.

Neighbors also shared concerns about the suspect's mental health, his history of drug use and interactions with homeless individuals.

Spokane police said the suspect is in custody.
