SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. β€” Volunteers at Neighbors Feeding Neighbors serve more than Thanksgiving meals. They serve hope to a community facing rising hunger.

Fifth-grader Michael Abdallah spends his Sundays volunteering instead of playing video games or reading comic books.

"It makes me feel good when I can help people and when other people feel good," Michael said. "I don't know. It just brings me happiness. It just makes me feel good."

Michael and other volunteers serve Thanksgiving meals with smoked turkey, vegetables and gravy. They help families who arrive by car.

Robert came for a meal. He sees the need in his community.
