CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (KCRG) - Iowa City Liberty quarterback Reece Rettig played through a knee injury during the Lightning’s 27-10 loss to Dowling Catholic in the Class 5A state championship game.
The senior briefly left the game in the second quarter. He said he’s been dealing with the injury for about a month, but returned in the second half to throw Liberty’s only touchdown.
“You aren’t gonna not play your last game, so I mean, I can fight through it,” Rettig said. “Our trainers taped me up my knee with whatever’s going on, you gotta play through it.”
Rettig said the knee issue had bothered him for nearly a month, but he played through it during the entire playoffs.
