CAMPAIGN 2026: Former U.S. Senator Doug Jones plans to run for Alabama governor, according to a new report.

AL.com reports that Jones will seek the soon-to-be open seat, quoting “The Voice of Alabama Politics” online show, produced by Bill Britt, the editor of the Alabama Political Reporter website.

Jones was U.S. senator from 2018-2021. He was the last Democrat to be elected to statewide office in Alabama. He won the office in a special election after then-U.S. Senator Jeff Sessions was appointed by President Trump to become Attorney General.
