Mental health call turns fatal in the community of Dover on Sunday afternoon
What Calgary Police Service described as a mental health intervention led to the death of a man in their custody on Sunday.
Officers were summoned by EMS to a home in the 3900 block of 30th Avenue S.E. in the community of Dover shortly after 4:30 p.m. for what police called “safety concerns related to a mental health call,” according to a written statement issued by Calgary police late Sunday night.

The incident involved a man in his 40s displaying erratic behaviour.
“While officers attempted to take him into custody, the man became combative and assaulted one of the officers,” police said.
“Officers deployed Tasers, but the man continued to resist and then went into medical distress.”
