LAWRENCE — During an appearance on Sports Radio 810 WHB in November, Lance Leipold’s interview spanned more than just his job as Kansas football’s head coach.

Lance, days removed from a road game this season against Arizona, also talked about how long a fall it had been for his family. Only recently, his wife Kelly had revealed through a social media post on X that she’d been diagnosed with breast cancer. What started with an effort to undergo a certain level of physicals, he explained, led to learning the unfortunate news of what she was going through.

But, while Lance expressed appreciation for everyone who’d reached out and the treatment Kelly had received, the discussion didn’t focus solely on those things. Lance also highlighted why Kelly wanted to go public with her diagnosis,
