A woman left a property lawyer fearing for his life after she threatened him with a pair of garden scissors as he investigated a bitter boundary dispute in her village.

Rachel Lawrence confronted the victim outside her 17th Century cottage and then lunged at him just moments after he had visited his client to discuss the feud, a court heard. The 56-year-old, who claimed she had been weeding, was seen holding the 5.5inch scissors in her fist at head height just a metre from his face.

She then condemned his client as a liar, stating: "You know that you cannot believe a word he says?". She then said: "What? Do you think I am going to stab you with a pair of scissors? These are for gardening."

When the lawyer called police on his mobile, Lawrence went on: "They're on my side.
