While Bruce Pearl is no longer on the sidelines leading Auburn men’s basketball , he remains connected to the university.

In Auburn’s video officially announcing Pearl’s retirement, he acknowledged that he considered running for the U.S. Senate, but decided he wanted to stick around to be “Auburn’s senator.”

Pearl’s new official title within Auburn athletics is Special Assistant to the Athletics Director. In an interview with AL.com last week, Auburn athletic director John Cohen explained what exactly Pearl does in that role.

“Bruce is helping us with fundraising. Bruce, he’s going to speak everywhere,” Cohen said. “He will talk a lot about the Auburn experience, what it means to be an Auburn man or an Auburn woman. He will talk about the strength of Auburn.”
