From February 25, 2026, visitors from 85 countries, including the United States, Canada, and France, who do not require a visa will be unable to legally travel to the UK without an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA). Everyone wishing to enter the UK will need digital permission via either an ETA or an eVisa, with carriers checking individuals before they travel.

Since its introduction in October 2023, over 13.3 million visitors have successfully applied for an ETA. It has become a crucial part of travel, even for those taking connecting flights and passing through UK passport control.
